The Armenian Ministry of Defense confirmed today that the Armed Forces continue to fully perform their duties to ensure the country's security regardless of the political process.
The Russian Today channel website quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today that the army continues to serve in the name of ensuring the security of the state and the people, calling for not to make statements on behalf of the Ministry of Defense and not to involve the army in political processes.
For his part, one of the opposition leaders, Gigam Manukyan, confirmed earlier that all units of the Armenian Armed Forces joined the statement of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the government.
The Presidential Office announced that President Armen Sarkisian had not signed a decree on the dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Onik Gasparyan, whom Pashinyan had requested his dismissal.
In turn, Prime Minister Pashinyan confirmed that for the second time he had sent a petition to the President of the Republic requesting the dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Yesterday, Pashinyan announced the dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Onik Kasparian, and called on his supporters to gather in the Republic Square in the center of Yerevan, after the commission issued a statement calling for his resignation, which was described by the Armenian Prime Minister as an attempt at a military coup.
