Corona in Germany: RKI publishes current figures

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports a little more new corona infections this Friday than last week: within one day, the German health authorities registered 9997 new cases.
A week ago it was 9113. In addition, 394 more deaths were recorded within 24 hours.
The data reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:10 a.m., subsequent changes and additions are possible.
The seven-day incidence continues to hover around 60. According to the RKI, it was 62.6 nationwide on Friday morning - and thus slightly higher than the previous day (61.7).
According to the RKI situation report on Thursday evening, the nationwide seven-day R-value was 1.05 (previous day 0.98).

Corona in Germany: School of infection?
RKI study contradicts

Now the Robert Koch Institute is presenting a study.
An analysis of registration data and studies suggest that schoolchildren “tend not to play a greater role as a“ motor ”,” but that they too are transmitted and that outbreaks need to be prevented.
According to the RKI, school breakouts are closely related to the incidence in the population.
It is said that teachers played “a perhaps more important role” than students.
"Outbreaks that occur are usually small in the observed period and about half are limited to the cohorts or classes," the scientists stated.
Larger outbreaks - in one case with 55 cases - do occur, but are "a rare occurrence overall".
During the investigation, one must bear in mind that the authors primarily look at reporting data based on laboratory-confirmed corona cases.
They themselves point to a number of associated limitations: Primary school students in particular often show no symptoms or the onset of the disease is difficult to determine.
A "larger number" of asymptomatic infected people may be missed and the size of outbreaks underestimated.
On the basis of a large Austrian study, however, it could be assumed “that this error is probably not substantially large”.
The new Corona variants, especially the mutant B.1.1.7 discovered in Great Britain, represent "new challenges" according to the authors.
The easier transferability seems to apply to all age groups.
"If more contagious variants spread, this could mean that schools could make a greater contribution to the infection process."
It is recommended to keep this in mind when considering opening.

Corona: Police warn Berliners: inside of a Baltic Sea walk
In other regions, however, the infection rate is extremely high.
The Berlin police expressly warned of day trips to the Baltic Sea via Twitter.
District of Vorpommern-Greifswald, Usedom as well as Ueckermünde and Lubim are currently considered high-risk areas.
Entry is generally prohibited according to the Infection Protection Ordinance.

Corona in Germany: The state has the lowest incidence - and still tightened rules

Munich - The number of corona cases is currently developing completely differently in Germany.
When looking at the daily new corona infections, however, one thing is noticeable: on Wednesday, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports the highest number of cases of the week.
Why it is like that?
RKI boss Lothar Wieler explained the phenomenon weeks ago at a press conference on request with test procedures, reporting systems and the electronic recording of the corona number of cases.
This explanation may be unsatisfactory for some - nonetheless, the number of corona cases is always at the highest level of the week on Wednesday of all times.
In this respect, a comparison of the number of corona cases on this day is quite interesting.
Even if late registrations are still possible, as the RKI emphasizes.
Corona in Germany: RKI reports 11,869 new corona infections
The health authorities reported 11,869 new Corona * infections (previous day - Wednesday: 11,800 new infections) to the RKI within 24 hours.
That comes from the data of the RKI Covid 19 dashboard on Thursday morning.
The number of corona cases is therefore higher - than on Wednesday.

Coronavirus: 7-day incidence in Germany is picking up again
In addition to the number of corona cases, the 7-day incidence * is currently an important value for the number of infections.
But here too the contrasts are sometimes enormous in Germany.
The 7-day incidence on Thursday is 61.7.
Baden-Württemberg is the only federal state in Germany that has an incidence of 50.
The country is now tightening the quarantine rules

Thuringia has a value of 119.4 - the highest incidence.
The federal and state governments want to push the 7-day incidence below 35, only then should there be further easing in the federal states.
At least that's the plan - with lots of ifs and buts.
The size of 10 is also being discussed for opening concepts.
The next federal-state corona summit is due next Wednesday (March 3).
In the run-up, the country managers get in position.
In some federal states in Bavaria, for example, the hardware stores are being opened *, while in neighboring Baden-Württemberg they should remain closed.
Corona in Germany between lockdown or easing?
The coronavirus is on the rise in individual cities and regions.
Düsseldorf (NRW) has reintroduced the mask requirement after the incidence jumped to 56.1.
Hessen is planning further steps to relax the corona measures.
Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU) announced a four-step plan for this at a digital CDU event.
The assessment of the Corona room for maneuver in Hesse will no longer depend on the incidences in the future, said the CDU state chief.
The corona pandemic must continue to be cautious.
"But we can't go on like this either."

Corona mutations in Germany - federal state tightened quarantine rules
Baden-Württemberg tightened the quarantine rules.
With this, the country wants to slow down the spread of the more contagious variants.
Category 1 contact persons must be in isolation for 14 days instead of the previous ten days, the State Ministry announced on Thursday, as reported by the dpa news agency.
This also applies to household members of the infected person and household members of contact persons of infected people with a virus mutation.
Schoolchildren can only be free tested from the fifth day - as soon as it is certain that the person who tested positive has not been infected with a new virus variant.
The rules for entry quarantine are also being tightened: Anyone entering from a high-incidence area will no longer be able to be tested in the future.
Anyone entering from an area with virus variants must remain in quarantine for 14 days and cannot be tested either.
So far, those who have recovered from an infection have been exempted from the quarantine obligation for six months - due to the virus mutants, this exemption is reduced to three months.
