Some five million Salvadorans are summoned to the polls this Sunday to elect deputies to the Legislative Assembly, the Central American Parliament and local governments.

The elections could give New Ideas, President Nayib Bukele's party, a majority in Congress, allowing him to control the approval or reform of laws, international loans, and the appointment of officials.
