C. Tangana presented this Thursday

El Madrileño

, his third album.

A work that the composer and interpreter began two years ago in Cuba, while he was looking for how to revive what he called the creative corpse that he had become.

Thanks to this immersion in Cuban culture and to his work with Santos Bacana, Antón Álvarez Alfaro, first name of C. Tangana, created - so far - the best album of his life, a reflection of his maturity in lyrics, composition and production.

Or as the singer defines it, "a thousand-page travel novel."

«Cuba has been an anchor point from where I understand practically all Latin music.

It has been very important, "says C. Tangana in an interview with Zona Pop CNN.

«In addition, Eliades (Ochoa) was the first of all the teachers that appear on the album, the first who got into the studio with me and whom I saw, in his eyes, that he gave me respect, and that I understood that I was at the level as a composer and as a producer to face this album with these people, with these beasts that appear here, "explains the singer.

The new C. Tangana

For his followers, the sounds that C. Tangana brings in the production are far from his first two productions.

The urban genre led him to travel, learn, study and explore other rhythms.

“People have appreciated a change, especially my audience.

It had been announcing itself for a bit since "Un poison", which is a song I did about two years ago.

It was a traditional bolero, like a Cuban bolero », says C. Tangana.

El Madrileño

is a global project, which was forged in various capitals of the world, says C. Tangana in the production profile.

The album incorporates sounds from Latin America, in a kind of tribute to the region.

From rock from Argentina and Uruguay, to corridos from Mexico, bachata from the Dominican Republic and son from Cuba, bossa nova from Brazil, all are, in one way or another, part of the 14 songs that make up the album.

El Madrileño and his collaborations

One of the singles with which he made this production known was “Tu me dejaste de quiero”, a collaboration with La Húngara and Niño de Elche.

At the time, C. Tangana said it was the most important song of his career.

The video of it accumulates more than 89 million views on YouTube.

The song was an experiment in bachata, a sound typical of the Dominican Republic and in which it incorporates rumba and flamenco.

"People appreciated the experimentation very much because we are at a time when although there is a lot of success, there is little variety and little originality in music made in Spanish," C. Tangana told Zona Pop CNN in November 2020, after launching the simple one.

On the album, the singer is flanked by the Gipsy Kings, Toquinho, José Feliciano, Ed Maverick, Nicolás Reyes, Tonino Baliardo, Omar Apollo, Eliades Ochoa, Carin León, Adriel Favela, Pepe Blanco, Kiko Veneno, Andrés Calamaro and Jorge Drexler .

Mexican corridos with C. Tangana stamp

One of the riskiest unions was “CAMBIA!”, Together with Carin León and Adriel Favela.

A Mexican corrido a la español.

«I'm a big fan of the corrido and I think I share a lot with them this intention of doing something that vindicates folk music and root music, but that is contemporary and current and that speaks to young people and that is music for now », says C. Tangana.

Despite this, the singer felt reservations when sending the song to Adriel Favela.

«I assumed that he was going to say to me 'look, the Spaniards are going to make music by Spaniards and the

corrios

, you leave them to me', right?

Like… 'we trust each other, brother, but this is not your thing,' "he says.

To his surprise, Adriel not only heard the proposal, but recorded himself playing the song and singing it.

«For me that was a very significant gesture that gave me the courage to finish it, to call Carin, to bring them both up and to make it the biggest issue.

The truth is that I'm excited about that song, I think it is one of the great songs on the album.

I could not keep any, but right now that may be my favorite, it is the one that surprises me the most, "said the singer.
