The Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic inaugurated this Friday a mural in homage to the legendary Dominican musician Johnny Pacheco.

The artwork projects the path of the tropical music artist.

The mural is located in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, next to the Pedro Henríquez National Library in Santo Domingo.

Pacheco, a native of Santiago de los Caballeros and who since childhood lived with his family in New York, was a prominent musician, composer and arranger.

Considered by experts and lovers of Latin music as one of the fathers of salsa, Pacheco created the Fania Records label in the 1960s and later the Fania All Stars orchestra, through which the greatest artists of Caribbean music passed. and many new musicians rose to stardom.

The 85-year-old artist died in New York of pneumonia, his wife told CNN on February 15.

The mural was made by Dominican artists Johann Báez, Gabriel Doñé, Néstor Omar García and Puerto Rican David Sepúlveda, reportedly.
