Big excitement, small company: there were just 17 people at the much discussed general meeting of the CSU local association Peiting in the sports hall in Birkenried - they unanimously elected Michael Deibler as interim chairman, who replaces Norbert Merk after 18 years.

Peiting

- On this evening, every visitor is sitting at a single table wearing an FFP2 mask.

Just 17 came - a number somewhere between the Corona Committee and regular municipal council occupation.

13 tables remain free.

And so Norbert Merk said goodbye on this evening in this memorable, understated setting after 18 years as CSU chairman.

For a further 13 members one had seated, they preferred to stay at home.

And thus missed the mayor's clarification regarding the presence event, which the councilors had already received on the same day.

Peter Ostenrieder makes it clear: he spoke to the SPD parliamentary group and the Greens and clarified everything.

He feels “misunderstood” and finds the article in the SN “disturbing for many people”.

The election officer is the federal constituency manager Leopold Hahn.

He goes into the time pressure when it comes to electing delegates.

“Everything has to be in place by the end of June, otherwise the CSU will not be on the September ballot.

Nobody criticized the SPD.

"Why should you?

Everything was correct ”, there was no lockdown.

That's how correct you want to do it.

Postal voting, with all new suggestions taken into account: "It is a challenge to apply it, we are better advised with such a meeting."

It is hard for Merk to say goodbye

With all the turmoil surrounding the presence event, then deserves the focus: The handover from local chairman Norbert Merk to interim chairman Michael Deibler - who, as is well known, is to hand over to Stephan Walter in two years.

You can't see too much under the mask, and yet you notice it. It's hard to say goodbye.

When he was elected local chairman 18 years ago, he would never have dreamed "that I would overtake the longest local chairman, Gerhard Hee, in years of service".

Merk fondly remembers the many receptions with prominent guests of the first class, and he will never forget the three local elections, which would have required patience.

"Perhaps in my vigor I sometimes got too direct or got to someone's feet."

The members of the CSU branch are happy to overlook that this evening.

From the new chairman Deibler there is a "feeding basket".

He made it clear that he - even with a view to the local elections, in which he ran as mayor candidate - in no way feels like a stopgap.

Even if he will only head the local club for two years.

“I'm more of a placeholder, I'm the towel on the lounger by the pool.” Well, if that doesn't mean that the CSU in Peiting has a sunny outlook despite all the farewell mood.
