The Speaker of the People's Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh, met today with a member of the Russian State Duma, Murad Barev, head of sports federations in the Russian Federation, and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, the President of the Council described the Syrian-Russian relations established by the two wise leaderships in the two friendly countries as "deeply rooted, solid and distinguished", noting that the bilateral parliamentary relations between the People's Assembly and the Russian Duma are witnessing remarkable development over time.
Sabbagh expressed his hope for greater progress in strengthening and developing bilateral Syrian-Russian relations in various fields, including sports, noting the constructive and fruitful cooperation currently underway between the Olympic Council in the Russian Federation and the Olympic Committee in Syria.
For his part, Barev stressed the importance of developing Russian-Syrian relations in all fields, especially the parliamentary one, noting that the Russian people are watching with great interest the successes achieved by the Syrians in various sectors despite the difficulties their country is going through and the war waged against them.
A member of the Russian State Duma expressed his country's readiness to provide support to Syria, especially to the General Sports Federation in the training sector and in the rehabilitation of sports facilities, indicating in a statement to reporters that "an Olympic school will be opened in Syria that is interested in sports talents and preparing sports teams participating in the Olympics and sports matches in various countries of the world." .
The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of the People's Assembly, Akram Al-Ajlani, a number of council members, and President of the General Sports Federation, Firas Mualla.
