Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu discussed with his Armenian counterpart Vagarshak Harutyunyan the situation in Karabakh and the region in general.
Russia today quoted a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry as saying: Shoigu discussed by phone today with Harutyunyan issues of common interest and the current situation in Karabakh.
The two ministers also discussed the residential centers in which the Russian peace-keeping force carries out its tasks, especially after the agreement between the presidents of Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan on a complete ceasefire between the two sides and the exchange of prisoners and dead bodies.
Last November, Azerbaijan and Armenia reached, under the auspices of Russia, a ceasefire agreement that ends a conflict in the Karabakh region that lasted for about a month and a half, and provides for the stopping of Armenian and Azerbaijani forces at their current locations and the deployment of Russian peacekeepers along the region and the corridor connecting the Armenian lands and between it. It includes lifting restrictions on movement and transit, the exchange of prisoners between the two parties to the conflict and the return of displaced persons.
