The Homs Chess Championship for the men's category, which was held in the Workers Club Hall in Homs, was concluded with the participation of 50 players from the Workers' Clubs, the National Victory, the Youth, Al Wathba and the Training Center.
Bashar Al-Zalma won first place, followed by Edouar Latifa, both of them from Al-Nasr, then Razouq from Al-Wathba, Yarub Al-Sharif from the workers, and the owner of Al-Tawbah from the youth
In a statement to the SANA Sports Bulletin, Chairman of the Technical Committee for Chess Mahmoud Rabie explained the importance of this nine-day tournament, which was held on the Swiss system with nine rounds, pointing out that he participated in the tournament in addition to the category of male champions of age groups, where the child Latifa won second place.
Rabei added that the competitions were strong, and the distinguished and first-placed people were chosen to participate in the Republic Championship, pointing out the need to include this game within the school curriculum as it is one of the games that stimulate the mind and memory, and children get used to thinking and analysis from an early age.
The coach, Bashar Mustafa, referred to the importance of the weekly refreshing tournaments that are held at the Workers' Sports Club among players of different age groups, which contribute to the development of their performance.
In turn, the president of the workers club, Taher al-Faris, said: “The enthusiastic sports atmosphere prevailed over the workers club for nine days, especially through the men's chess championship, especially since the club has a long tradition in this game as it includes most of the chess players in Homs.”
