The government announced today (27th) that in view of the continuing severity of the global epidemic, the Hong Kong government continues to ban visitors from Brazil, Ireland, South Africa and the United Kingdom who have stayed in extremely risky areas for more than two hours on the day of boarding or 21 days before.

The government stated that it understands that the above-mentioned measures in the designated areas are very strict and will inevitably affect the return trips of some local residents in these areas. However, it is necessary to continue the relevant arrangements to prevent the import of new variant viruses.

The government announced today (27th) that it will continue to prohibit people who have stayed in extremely high-risk areas for more than two hours on the day of boarding or 21 days before boarding to Hong Kong, namely Brazil, Ireland, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

The government will continue to maintain the "Prevention and Control of Diseases (Regulation of Cross-Border Transport and Arrivals) Regulations" (Chapter 599H) applicable to those who have stayed in the extremely high-risk Group A designated areas when boarding and arriving in Hong Kong Restrictive measures and the "Regulations on Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Persons Arriving in Hong Kong" (Chapter 599C), "Regulations on Compulsory Quarantine of Persons Arriving from Foreign Countries" (Chapter 599E) and Chapter 599H, for those who have stayed outside of China 21-day compulsory quarantine requirements for people arriving in Hong Kong.

On the day of boarding, or 21 days before, those in Group A designated areas who have stayed in a high-risk area for more than 2 hours will not be allowed to board the flight to Hong Kong.

The designated areas in Group A are Brazil, Ireland, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Group B designated areas with very high risk and Group C designated areas with medium and high risk.

All arrivals who have stayed outside of China on the day of arrival or 21 days before arriving in Hong Kong, regardless of whether they arrive in Hong Kong via the airport or land port, must be quarantined at the designated quarantine hotel for 21 days.

Those arriving in Hong Kong who have stayed in the designated areas in Group B must present a negative result of a nucleic acid test for COVID-19 conducted within 72 hours before the scheduled departure time before boarding.

The government stated that it understands that the measures are very stringent and that the maintenance of restricted boarding requirements will inevitably affect the return of some local residents in the relevant areas to Hong Kong.

However, it is necessary for the Government to continue the relevant arrangements to strictly prevent the import of new variant viruses to protect the health of the overall community in Hong Kong.

The government will continue to closely monitor the situation, including the development of global and local epidemics, and changes in the number of people entering and leaving the country, and will adjust boarding and compulsory quarantine requirements when necessary.
