The Police Investigations Department opened today (Sunday) an investigation into the conduct of the police in a demonstration in Umm al-Fahm after dozens of demonstrators were injured in clashes.
The investigation was opened without any official complaints being filed, but MK Yosef Jabarin and Mayor Samir Mahamid are expected to do so during the day.
During the demonstrations, eight policemen were also injured, including a spokesman for the area, an officer with the rank of superintendent.
In a protest held on Friday, which took place for the seventh week in a row against the government's failure to deal with crime in Arab society, dozens of protesters were injured, including a business owner in his 30s, who was seriously evacuated to hospital after being hit in the head.
MK Jabarin was also injured by a rubber bullet and was taken to hospital in a light condition, as was Mayor Mahamid.
