Drivers need strong nerves: there is parallel work on the B2 - "measures coordinated"

Drivers should plan enough time: from Monday, March 1st, traffic in Oberau will only cross the new bridge at the tunnel portal.

But that's not all.

Oberau / Farchant - In a year, traffic should be rolling through the Oberau tunnel.

Much remains to be done to make this possible.

Above all, the connection from the old B2 to the new bypass at the south portal must be created.

Just like the connection for those who want to go to Oberau.

To make this possible, from Monday, March 1st, around 9 a.m. until probably mid-September, traffic will also be diverted to the north via the new bridge.

That means, from the two-lane Farchanter Tunnel, you continue on one lane.

That alone demands strong nerves from drivers.

Then there is the cleaning work in the Farchanter tunnel - also in the coming week.

"Both measures are coordinated," emphasizes Nadine Heiss from the Weilheim State Building Authority.

As a result, the single-track system will be extended for a short time, in their opinion "the better solution".

The upcoming traffic management "was discussed and coordinated with the police, traffic authorities, road construction authority and district office," confirms Katharina Holzapfel, spokeswoman for the southern Bavarian autobahn directorate, which is building the Oberau bypass.

During the next few months, "the Oberau Süd semi-junction will be completed so that it will later be possible to drive up in the direction of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and exit to Oberau".

Tubes are cleaned

Meanwhile, work in the Farchanter Tunnel only lasts for Wednesday night and Thursday night.

Salt, dirt and other impurities are removed from the tubes from 6 p.m. to around 6 a.m.

"This is urgently needed after the winter and is safety-relevant in order to keep traffic signs and sensors functional, among other things," explains official spokesman Michael Meister.

He and his colleagues are very familiar with this.

After all, in addition to other maintenance work, the tunnel has to be completely cleaned twice a year, stresses Heiss, the department head responsible for the district in the building authority.

“At least,” she adds.

She does not expect any major traffic problems.

In contrast to their colleagues from the Autobahn Directorate, who even in the run-up to the traffic changeover advertise for the understanding of car, truck and motorcycle drivers.

Basically, they recommend everyone to allow enough time, and especially for excursion traffic, to avoid the area as much as possible.
