New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo was one of the most prominent leaders in the United States at the time of the outbreak of the corona plague a year ago.

He convened daily press conferences, urged residents to adhere to the guidelines in the face of the new virus and made an empathetic tone in stark contrast to the policies of former President Donald Trump.

But he is now complicated over his head, with an investigation on suspicion of rendering the death toll in nursing homes and allegations of sexual harassment by two of his former aides.

He is criticized by members of his Democratic Party and Republicans alike, and calls for his removal are growing.

The troubles of Cuomo, who has been mentioned more than once as a possible Democratic presidential candidate, began last month.

A New York Attorney General's report suggested that the Cuomo administration lied about coronary mortality data in nursing homes, noting that the administration's policies may have contributed to this.

As a result, the administration was forced to update the death toll in nursing homes, from 8,500 to 15,000.

Subsequently, a senior adviser to the governor admitted to lawmakers that the concealment of the data stemmed from fears of a political persecution by the Justice Department under the then Republican administration.

The nursing home scandal led Ron Kim, a Democratic representative in the New York Legislature, to call for Comey's removal.

He even said that the governor promised to "destroy" him due to the criticism he voiced against him for handling the affair.

A few days after the federal prosecution opened an investigation into the rendering of nursing homes, the headline of the second affair in which Cuomo, the governor of New York since 2011, made headlines

Lindsay Boyle, a former Cuomo aide, accused him of sexual harassment as early as December.

Boleyn wrote on the Medium website that the 63-year-old Democratic governor made some "inappropriate gestures" towards her, while working under him from 2015 to 2018. She said he sent her a rose on Valentine's Day and kissed her on the mouth.

"Governor Andrew Cuomo has created a culture in his administration where sexual harassment and bullying are so prevalent that they are not only forgiven but predictable," wrote Boyle, who is running for mayor of the Manhattan borough.

She added that at least two other facts told her that Cuomo had behaved in this way in their environment as well, but they were afraid to speak in public.

Cuomo, whose third term will end next year, denied Boylen's claims both in December and this week.

"As we said earlier, Mrs Boyle's allegations of misconduct are simply untrue," Cuomo's spokeswoman Caitlin Girord said in a statement on Wednesday.

She did not comment on many of the former assistant's allegations, but denied that the governor offered her to play strip poker while on the flight in October 2017.

According to the statement, several government officials who were on each of Cuomo and Boyle's flights that month said they had not heard such a call.

Following Boyle's new allegations of Cuomo's sexual harassment, some Republicans urged him to resign.

New York City Mayor Bill de Bellasio has called for a comprehensive investigation into the allegations against his sworn rival, whom he described as "extremely disturbing."

Another bomb landed on Cuomo yesterday, when Charlotte Bennett, who was a health consultant in his administration until she left in November, told the New York Times that Cuomo had harassed her last spring, at the height of the New York epidemic.

The 25-year-old Bennett said that, among other things, he asked her questions about her sex life and whether she had ever had sex with older men.

Cuomo said in response that he thought he was a sort of Bennett spiritual teacher, and denied that he had acted improperly.

He said he had ordered a self-investigation of the issue, but many of his party members demanded that it be conducted independently.

"Defendant can't name the investigator, period," tweeted Congresswoman Caitlin Rice of Long Island.

"The ongoing allegations are disturbing and very worrying. The behavior described has no place in the work. An independent investigation must begin immediately."
