Franziska Lüttich offers something that should be unique in the region: The trained grief counselor and funeral speaker also wants to accompany pet owners on their way through mourning after the death of their beloved animal.

The woman from Penzberg also writes obituaries for pets.

Penzberg - “It was just an animal.” Franziska Lüttich says this is a sentence that people unfortunately hear very often from others after the death of their animal.

Hardly a sentence hurt people who had to say goodbye to an animal as much as this one.

Because for those affected it was not “just an animal”.

But best friend and life companion.

"The mourning for a furry, feathery, scaled or whatever kind of family member hurts just as much as that for a person - sometimes even more," emphasizes Lüttich.

It quickly says: "Don't feel like that, it was just a hamster"

The trained grief counselor has been writing funeral speeches for people for around three years.

Now the woman from Penzberg has started to write obituaries on animals and help her owners through the time of mourning.

She herself has often had to say goodbye to her own pets over the years, so she knows from experience how painful it is to lose a beloved animal and how incomprehensible some people react to the grief of the pet owner.

Especially with smaller animals it is easy to say: “Don't feel like that.

It was just a hamster. ”Instead of helping the mourner with understanding and consolation, he is left alone or even portrayed as crazy because he is so inconsolable because of an animal.

“But it's not hysteria to mourn an animal,” she clarifies.

She has long been writing private obituaries for her deceased animals, says Lüttich.

To remember the four-legged friend and the time together while writing, "that just feels good", she has found to herself.

She has therefore decided to write individual obituaries for other people who are not able to write down beautiful words about their animals themselves.

With this nationwide offer, she believes, she is the only one in the region.

Penzbergerin helps pet owners through the time of mourning

And her idea of also offering grief counseling for dead animals is only "very rare" in the area - if at all.

She is convinced that many pet owners need help after losing their dog, cat and co. They should now get this help from her.

Because before an obituary can be written, an intensive conversation about the deceased animal is required.

According to Liège, the owners could "pour out their hearts" without having to be ashamed of their grief, because: "It's okay to mourn." And talking about the deceased animal is "beneficial for the path of mourning".

How long someone mourns their goldfish, horse or cat varies from person to person.

But no matter how long you mourn: Everything is normal and perfectly fine, because: “Grief takes time.

There is no timetable for that. ”It is no different after the death of an animal than after that of a human.

Once an obituary has been written, the mourner can convert the text into a QR code and send it to friends.

According to Liège, some animal cemeteries north of Munich are now putting up signs with QR codes on the graves so that those who visit the grave can read the obituary on their cell phone - and find out, for example, what the "Purzel" is buried here was for a great dog.

And not “just an animal”.
