Not only the corona crisis is forcing the tenants to come up with new ideas: Magdalena Klein and Philip Jaeger also want to use a company canteen in Holzkirchen for other purposes.

Holzkirchen

- The start in the middle of the corona crisis was difficult.

Because most of the employees work from home.

“Canteens suffer extremely from this,” says Magdalena Klein.

She and her partner Philip Jaeger are currently selling around 70 percent less food than normal.

Those who still come to the office are not allowed to eat the dishes on site, but rather get the take-away boxes quickly.

The 30-year-old reports that there are some canteen operators who are two-pronged.

“In the industry you have to be flexible and creative.” In order to generate additional sales in the crisis, the two of them - like other colleagues - offer menus to collect and send.

The superbowl box, filled with chicken wings, spare ribs, pulled pork burgers and potato wedges, went well.

"We sold it all the way to the Swiss border."

Passionate chefs want to expand the company canteen

But they both want more for the future.

Because of Corona - and in general.

In order to be able to work economically, Klein and Jaeger would like to use the company canteen at Bergfeldstrasse 9 in Holzkirchen, which they have been running since September 2020, for other purposes.

At the latest municipal council meeting, Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) took the topic off the agenda at short notice.

Because consultations with the district office are pending.

Schmid does not want to say more about this at the moment, even when asked.

Klein and Jaeger - also a couple in their private lives - have been in the industry for a good ten years.

“We are both passionate cooks,” says Klein.

The 30-year-old is also head chef at Fährhütte 14 in Rottach-Egern.

But both Weyarners had long wanted to become self-employed.

They founded the Klein'er Taste Jaeger OHG.

They found out about the canteen in Holzkirchen from an acquaintance - and they took it.

Support from the lessor

According to Klein, 16 companies, including Klinge Pharma, are based in the building.

The two cooks - who are at the stove themselves in Holzkirchen - have signed their lease agreement with Athos Service GmbH, and the Strüngmann family is behind it.

“Our landlord knows about our endeavors and supports us in these too,” says Jaeger.

“It's not a typical canteen,” says Klein.

More can be made of the rooms.

The equipment is relatively new and of the finest quality.

“We don't want to make a party location there.” But if they want to maintain their level, they would have to generate additional business.

So it would be nice if external people could eat there at lunchtime.

They also plan company celebrations, cooking courses or gourmet evenings where 30 people are cooked for.

They would also welcome wedding celebrations there.

The guest room offers space for 150 people.

The events should take place outside of office hours, i.e. in the evening or on the weekend.

You have already applied for the necessary restaurant license.

The crux of the matter are the parking spaces

According to district office spokeswoman Sophie Stadler, the building applicant would have to submit a building application to the municipality for a change of use.

The community would then give the consent or fail and give the whole thing to the district office for building law review and approval.

There is still a need for coordination, an application has not yet been submitted.

The sticking point is probably the parking spaces, says Stadler.

If the rooms are used as a company canteen, there are already parking spaces for the employees who are also customers of the canteen.

"But if you want to use the canteen as a public restaurant, you need more parking spaces for the additional guests from outside." If the rooms were only open outside of business hours - i.e. in the evening or on the weekend - the existing parking spaces could be used for external people.

"The state building authority could imagine that if the concept is conclusive," says Stadler.

The community has a parking space statute that applies here.

Therefore, she would have to give her consent for this "parking space sharing".

The district office is now waiting for the municipality to provide more specific information.
