Does coronavirus infection harm pregnant women and their babies?
While researchers from England give the all-clear, Israel surprises with other findings.
Munich - While the coronavirus does not cause any symptoms for many sick people, high-risk patients in particular, but also young people who are not pre-stressed, can suffer from a severe course of the disease.
So far there has been no increased risk for pregnant women, as confirmed by experts from England a few weeks ago.
But now a ministry from Israel is surprising with shocking figures.

While the vaccination start in Germany was rather bumpy, and a new debate about the vaccine from the manufacturer Astrazeneca has flared up, half of the approximately 9.2 million inhabitants in Israel have already been vaccinated against the coronavirus at least once.
This was confirmed by the Israeli Ministry of Health on Friday.
But the institute published anything but reassuring figures on Monday.
Accordingly, the risk cases are currently increasing among pregnant women.

now reports, citing the Jerusalem Post, an unvaccinated 26-year-old is said to have given birth to a baby dead in the 36th week of pregnancy in Israel on Friday.
The woman had previously only complained of mild virus symptoms.
The baby had subsequently tested positive for the corona virus.
As the newspaper further reports, the clinic should suspect a connection between the infection and the stillbirth in a statement.

Another case occurred in early February, also in Israel.
At that time, a 25-year-old is said to have lost her unborn baby in the 25th week of pregnancy.
In this case, too, the fetus is said to have subsequently tested positive for corona.
Indeed, the Ministry of Health in Israel is currently registering an accumulation of critical cases among pregnant women and newborns.
In a recent report, the Ministry speaks loudly

from previously 39 pregnant women and women who have already given birth freshly taken to date because of an infection with the coronavirus stationary clinics.
Ten of them should be in critical condition, eight of them should be artificially ventilated.
But children are also affected by a severe course of the corona virus.
There are currently 25 children under the age of 18 in clinics, including five infants.

Researchers from England, on the other hand, take a completely opposite opinion.
It was only in February that the doctors declared in a study by Imperial College London that a corona infection in pregnant women posed no danger to the baby in the womb.
Accordingly, there was no connection between the death of babies in the womb or after birth and an infection with the virus.
For the researchers' study, data from around 4,000 pregnant women were examined.
Although an above-average number of premature births were registered, this could possibly be attributed to the treatment of the doctors.
Many doctors would therefore speak out in favor of an early caesarean section out of concern about the infection in the mother.
