Despite home schooling, the corona lockdown left some of the students' learning deficits.
The teachers' association is now proposing a voluntary additional year.
Berlin - Since February 22nd, schools have been at least partially reopened in many federal states.
Germany is slowly crawling out of the tough corona lockdown - the federal-state summit on March 3 could bring further easing.
Schools are a priority for many politicians.
Openings should be made.
On the one hand to free parents from home schooling and on the other hand to be able to impart knowledge to the students more directly.
Corona lockdown: many students with learning backlogs - degrees at risk?
But the past year of the corona pandemic has already had consequences for many students.
In addition to psychological problems in children, which have recently been increasingly confirmed by the current situation, there are also learning delays among many students.
This was what the German Teachers Association came up with.
In the past year, all students in almost all federal states were transferred, said President Heinz-Peter Meidinger to the
Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung
.
According to Meidinger, such a regulation would mean that "many students can no longer make the connection".
Corona result: learning backlog: Voluntary additional year as a solution?
Meidinger therefore spoke out in favor of an additional voluntary year.
Not in all subjects, however.
He spoke out in favor of “own study groups” in which only the material in which a student had deficits was repeated.
In this respect, students would stay seated, but not in all subjects.
In general, according to Meidinger's approach, it should be possible to participate voluntarily in such a program in order to improve the grades.
The question, however, is with which staff should the concept be implemented?
Here, too, Meidinger has an idea: Former teachers are to be brought out of retirement and part-time workers are encouraged to increase their hours.
Background: The education and science union demanded in January that all students be transferred this year.
The Federal Parents' Council agreed.
The German Teachers Association wants to present its own concept in the coming days, said Meidinger to the
Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung
.
