The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended for three days the detention of Ibrahim Hamid, a resident of East Jerusalem suspected of trampling to death yesterday (Sunday) of Itamar Ben Abu on Third Wall Street in the city.
Hamid, who was injured in the incident, claimed during his interrogation that he was frightened when dozens of ultra-Orthodox people gathered around the vehicle in which he was traveling and threw stones at him, and therefore accelerated his vehicle.
He is suspected of the offense of manslaughter.
In 2014, Ben Abu's father was killed in a car bomb attack at the Shimon Hatzadik light rail station in Jerusalem when a terrorist collided with a station laden with passengers.
Initially, Hamid escaped in the shuttle vehicle with which he hit Ben Abu, but was later located by the police - and taken for questioning.
