In the second lockdown, air traffic in Erdinger Moos fell sharply again, but not quite as drastically as in the first.

This is proven by figures from Flughafen München GmbH.

Airport - A year ago there was normal operation at Germany's second largest airport.

In January 2020 there were 31,000 take-offs and landings and 3.17 million passengers, in February 30,000 connections and three million passengers.

The first shutdown came in mid-March.

FMG recorded a significant slump: 17,500 take-offs and landings and 1.32 million travelers.

In April and May, operations were down: only 2034 aircraft movements and 22,800 passengers or 2,300/39,400.

In the summer there was again more freedom for the citizens.

But the holiday business remained low.

For July, the FMG reported 10,200 take-offs and landings and 667,000 guests, in August there were 12,500/876,000.

As of November, public life was frozen again due to the sharp rise in the number of infections - but with the numbers no longer so bad.

The FMG counted 6,700 flights and 246,000 guests, in December there were 5,830 connections and 245,000 passengers.

The Christmas business went flute.

In January - the pandemic reached its peak in Germany - only 5070 machines with 200,300 people on board started at Moos Airport.

There is no improvement in sight, at least in the short term.

However, the industry seems to expect easing from the second quarter.

Lufthansa, the largest airline in Munich, cut its summer flight schedule by 30 percent, but published a total of more than 30 destinations, mainly in the travel areas.

From Munich there will be 13 new destinations: Chania, Mykonos, Kos, Kavalla, Zakynthos, Preveza (all Greece), Jerez in Spain and Hurghada in Egypt.

The Turkish airline SunExpress has already announced its summer flight schedule.

From Munich there should be daily trips to Ankara, Antalya and Izmir and once a week to Adana, Bodrum, Dalaman and Kayseri.

"We are convinced that 2021 can be a successful year for door tourism," says SunExpress CEO Peter Glade.
