Instead of the annoying paperwork, the app offers a digital solution to enable contact tracking after a visit to a restaurant or concert.
After installation, each user first stores their name, address and contact options.
To enable contact tracking, users check in with a QR code when entering a restaurant and check out again when leaving.
If a restaurant or concert goer tests positive at a later point in time, they have the option of voluntarily sharing their past contacts and visits saved in the app with the health department.
The health department, in turn, can then contact other restaurant visitors and inform them of the infection.
The app can be used not only for events, but also for private meetings.
According to the app developer, the information is stored decentrally and only transmitted in encrypted form.
The health department should only be able to read the data in the event of an infection.
Otherwise, neither the app nor the organizers or users should have an insight into the data.
Corona app Luca wants to facilitate contact tracking
Last year there was a heated discussion about how the population and the economy can help to simplify contact tracing.
In many restaurants there were lists on which customers should put their names.
But the paper mess was extremely unpopular because in some cases the notes were lying around carelessly and no data protection could be guaranteed.
In addition, the lists were found to be extremely annoying by many, which is why some users left no or only incorrect contact information.
Even the 67 million euro Corona warning app could not make a decisive contribution to more effective contact tracking.
Rapper Smudo hopes that contact tracing could speed up and the app could help open up gastronomic and cultural establishments.
But as with the federal government's Corona warning app, the Luca app can only be successful if as many people as possible are there.
