Crossed by the coronavirus pandemic and while the controversy over the vaccination against the coronavirus grows, the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, inaugurated this Monday the ordinary session of the Legislature of the City of Buenos Aires, in a speech that He toasted from his home through a videoconference since he is isolated after returning from a trip to Brazil.
In his speech, which lasted one hour and 9 minutes, Larreta defended his government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, rejected the complaints about the alleged
privatization of vaccination
and again claimed for the funds of the partnership that the national government took last year from the City.
In addition, and after presenting a series of axes as Government objectives towards 2023, he harshly criticized the crack, stating that it is a business of politics and does not add anything, but rather subtracts.
“During the last days, false accusations about vaccination have been spread in the City, which threaten the tranquility of the people and against the hope that the vaccine represents for everyone after such a hard year.
In the City, for 30 years social works and community hospitals - such as the Italian, the British or the German - have participated in the different vaccination campaigns.
And
nobody ever questioned it,
"he said.
At that point, Larreta assured that the City has applied 132,491 vaccines so far and that 31,199 people have already received the two doses and 70,093 the first of them.
“We are carrying
out a serious and transparent Vaccination Plan in the City.
We have all the logistics in place and ready to move forward once the national government gives us more doses: in total there are 180 public out-of-hospital posts, 45 social work posts distributed throughout the City, and 8 mobile teams, "he said.
After defending the management of the pandemic and thanking particularly his Minister of Health, Fernán Quirós, Larreta once again questioned the
withdrawal of funds from the co-participation
that President Alberto Fernández ordered in 2020 and for which the City filed a lawsuit before the Court Supreme
According to him, this reduction will mean a total of 65 billion pesos for 2021, in addition to the 13 billion already subtracted until December 31 last.
Beyond highlighting that his "conviction" is "to make decisions based on dialogue and consensus," he justified the lawsuit before the Court to
"defend the resources of Argentines who live and visit the City
."
"While we wait for the Court to be issued, we had to
restructure our management
and implement an efficiency plan and reduction of public spending to make the most of each resource," explained Larreta.
Among other things, he assured that the remote work "made it possible to dispense with the rent of offices and reduce the cost of building maintenance" and said that
some works
were
postponed and contracts with suppliers were renegotiated.
“This enabled us to sustain the level of investment in essential areas and to better project future plans.
We work area by area to analyze job opportunities and promote as many projects as possible to continue improving people's quality of life, "he added.
Dialogue, consensus and rift
At the end of his speech, Larreta sent a clear message to the national government and stated that he "always" sought "dialogue and consensus" and assured that those who exercise public functions must "build bridges beyond any discrepancy, because nothing it is more important than improving people's lives ”.
“We cannot let differences get in the way of a better City and Argentina.
I will always be there to build and work so that each time everyone can live better, ”he said.
In addition, he assured that "always" he will defend "dialogue, honesty, transparency, working together in good faith" and criticized the crack.
“I will always be there to end the crack.
The crack does not improve education, the crack does not give work, the crack does not give health, the crack does not build bridges or open shops or improve a square or generate opportunities for progress.
The crack is a business of politics and does not add anything, but rather subtracts
”, he asserted.
“The greatest lesson that the pandemic has to teach us is to understand that we are facing an opportunity to do things differently.
As a society, we have a huge future if we leave behind those divisions that hurt us so badly ”, he concluded.
