Demonstrators blocked the road and paralyzed traffic

The prosecution’s opening statement stated that on September 21, 2019, citizens marched from the Jinxin Wo Li Recreation Ground in Tuen Mun to the Tuen Mun Government Office. After the parade, some of the protesters did not disperse, including a large number of them. Demonstrators wearing black costumes, equipped with helmets, gas masks and face towels built barricades near Tuen Mun Times Square with iron horses and debris to occupy the road, successfully paralyzing the traffic on Tuen Hui Street.

The police arrived at the scene at 4:40 pm to form a line of defense to confront the demonstrators, and issued a warning requesting the demonstrators to disperse, but a crowd of demonstrators refused to leave.

At about 4:45 pm, the defendant, wearing a yellow helmet, gas mask, holding a metal shield and a hiking pole, walked to the front of the demonstrator’s line of defense and assisted another demonstrator to shoot at the police with a fire hose. His hiking stick hit the roadblock to make a noise.

Some demonstrators threw bricks and petrol bombs

At 5:04 in the afternoon, some demonstrators began to attack the police line and threw bricks and petrol bombs at the police line; the police immediately fired tear gas and pushed forward to try to disperse the crowd.

The demonstrators at the scene immediately turned and fled. In the chaos, the defendant was subdued by police officers outside Park Lane, Tuen Mun. During the chaos, at least five demonstrators used long weapons to be beaten.

The case was retrial in the afternoon.
