The Berlinale in hybrid mode

2021-03-01T09:43:37.217Z

The festival, which opens this Monday, adapts to the pandemic offering a two-part edition and a selection reduced to a hundred films.

The 70th edition of the Berlinale was held from February 20 to March 1, 2020 under normal conditions.

Festival-goers from all over the world discovered films in theaters, without masks or barrier gestures.

A year later, the pandemic continues to put the cinema under the extinguisher, after sweeping the Cannes Film Festival and rocking most online festivals - Venice, Deauville or Saint-Sébastien have miraculously passed between the drops and have succeeded to maintain a physical edition.

Fifteen feature films

The 71st edition of the Berlinale will be unlike anything known.

Carlo Chatrian, its artistic director, and Mariette Rissenbeek, the director of the festival, offer an event in two stages.

From March 1 to 5, the “virtual” market is held, allowing professionals and journalists to view the films online.

And from June 9 to 20, the Berlinale Summer Special will take place, with public screenings, indoors and outdoors, and the award ceremony by a joint jury.
