The Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong candidate Dong Jianli, who lost the district council election in the previous year, claimed that the election involved fraud. She filed an election petition earlier to challenge her opponent at the time, that is, the current district councillor Wu Dinglin was not properly elected.

Dong alleged that Deng Yaorong, the chairman of the Meichengyuan Owners' Corporation, used the name of the corporation and the title of chairman in support of Wu Shi without the authorization of the corporation and listed Deng Tong as the respondent.

However, Deng applied to exclude him from this case and was approved by the High Court today (1st).

The petitioner is Dong Jianli, and the respondent is the current district councillor Wu Dinglin, the chairman of the Meichengyuan Owners' Incorporated Deng Yaorong, and the Returning Officer Chen Wanwen.

Dong said in his petition that Deng used the name of the corporation and the title of chairman when he supported Wu's promotional banners, leaflets and election street station, but he did not get the authorization of the corporation. He also stated in his letter to the residents of Meichengyuan A photocopy of Wu's banner was sent with the letter, which made people mistakenly believe that the entire OC supported Wu.

Leaflet indicating support in personal capacity

However, Deng refuted the relevant banners and leaflets, although they mentioned the corporation and the chairman, but they also clearly indicated that Deng supported Wu in his own name, and Deng requested that he be removed as one of the respondent in the case.

The judge believed that according to the District Councils Ordinance, Deng could not be listed as a respondent in law, and therefore approved the application for rejection.
