A fatal car accident occurred on Argyle Street in Kowloon City in 2018. When an Uber driver was driving a BMW RV to pick up passengers, he lost control and rammed a taxi head-on. The Uber driver was killed in the incident.
The injured taxi passenger filed a petition in the High Court last Friday (26th), alleging that the Uber driver was involved in negligent driving and therefore claimed compensation from the driver’s estate administrator and Uber.
The plaintiff Liang Hailian (transliteration), the defendants are the deceased Xu Qiwei's estate administrator Zeng Shumin, Uber (Asia) Limited, Rasier Operations BV and Uber (Hong Kong) Limited.
The complaint alleges that the taxi that the plaintiff took on April 19, 2018 collided head-on with the private car driven by the deceased, causing the plaintiff to be injured.
The plaintiff alleged that the deceased as an Uber driver was involved in negligent driving, and because the deceased was an employee or agent of the other three defendants at the time of the incident, they should also be held responsible.
