Window show in Peiting: behind glass pictures with playful motifs

2021-03-01T10:13:26.247Z

“Kids And Style” is celebrating its premiere in two respects: On the one hand, because the Peitinger store on Hauptplatz 5, which specializes in baby, child and youth clothing, is finally able to reopen after tough months of closure from today; on the other hand, because, also starting this Monday, works by the prominent artist Fride WirtlWalser will be on view there for two weeks.

“Kids And Style” is celebrating its premiere in two respects: On the one hand, because the Peitinger store on Hauptplatz 5, which specializes in baby, child and youth clothing, is finally able to reopen after tough months of closure from today;

on the other hand, because, also starting this Monday, works by the prominent artist Fride WirtlWalser will be on view there for two weeks.

Peiting - "A stroke of luck, I can hardly believe it", says owner Gabriele Pischel moved.

Reason: Parts of their range, especially indispensable baby utensils such as cloth diapers and nursing wipes, have now been classified as systemically relevant.

“From now on we are open again during the usual business hours.” As if called, the 89-year-old Fride WirtlWalser from Peitinger also has a big heart for children.

It wasn't until Christmas that she made several small-scale pictures behind glass with playful and funny motifs for her grandchildren, she says with a smile.

These "raw bumps" now adorn the shop windows of the clothing store with all their blaze of color.

Behind glass painting - some might think of a style that seems outdated, of something dusty, medieval, sacred church art, and also of exceptional painters like Marc Chagall, who dedicated himself to this technique.

Definitely deep past.

Current references may not come to mind.

Not even close.

How modern, lively and fascinating this genre still is, hardly anyone knows better than the likeable artist, who was born in 1932 in the Kleiner Walsertal and trained as a sculptor in Stuttgart and Berchtesgaden.

Since 1970 she has devoted herself exclusively to European reverse glass painting.

Why?

"Because the colors develop an intense luminosity, the pane removes access to the work and even the finest traces of processing become visible on the smooth picture work," she gives just a few examples of her choice of this technique.

In addition, behind glass painting has a rich folkloric tradition, where history comes to life “en miniature”, so to speak.

“In addition, the mirror surfaces create a spatial sequence of movements.” Someone would say that earlier times were not familiar with 3-D technology!

Anyone who wants to see works of art by WirtlWalser in the shop windows of “Kids and Style” and thus get in touch with the artist has the opportunity until March 14th.
