Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, went south to Shenzhen yesterday (28th) to listen to the opinions of the Hong Kong establishment for two consecutive days on the improvement of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region election system and the implementation of "patriots ruling Hong Kong."
At today's (1st) symposium, 15 people from the legal, business and education sectors participated.
Leung Mei-fen, a member of the Basic Law Committee and a member of the Pakatan Harapan Legislative Council, said in an interview with the media that in the governance team, education, politics, and law should reflect patriots ruling Hong Kong.
In terms of legal requirements and system requirements, Leung Mei-fen believes that the Returning Officer should not only be left to determine the qualifications of candidates. He suggested that a qualification review committee should be established and the committee should be widely representative, so that patriots can rule Hong Kong.

Chen Yongqi, former member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that many people at the meeting expressed the hope that representatives of the National People's Congress and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Hong Kong can participate in the governance team.
He also pointed out that the Chief Executive’s Election Committee should increase the participation of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He believes that district councillors currently occupy too many seats. He suggested that district councilors may not need to become members of the election committee in the future.
Deng Fei, vice chairman of the Federation of Education, believes that in the past, many values in the education sector did not fully comply with the provisions of the Constitution and the Basic Law, which made people worry. He also pointed out that in some courses or teaching, there were values that deviated from the mainstream. Educational reforms or electoral system reforms should set aside chaos and rebuild confidence in the society and parents.
Deng Fei, vice chairman of the Federation of Educational Associations, believes that in the past, many values in the education sector did not fully comply with the provisions of the Constitution and the Basic Law, which is worrying.
