Confidence in one's own immunity was apparently not as great as publicly claimed: Former US President Donald Trump had himself vaccinated against the corona virus shortly before the end of his term in office.
Trump and his wife Melania were vaccinated in the White House in January, reported the Washington Post, citing Trump's office.
Trump contracted the corona virus last October and repeatedly said after his recovery that he considered himself "immune".
In addition, Trump claimed he could not pass the virus on.
It is completely unclear whether this is true.
On Sunday, in his first public appearance since leaving the White House, Trump called on all US citizens to get vaccinated.
Experts warn that the vaccination skepticism in parts of the population - including many Trump supporters - threatens to make the fight against the pandemic more difficult.
Trump's successor, Joe Biden, had himself publicly vaccinated in December, a month before he took office, to encourage trust in the new vaccines.
Trump's then Vice President Mike Pence also had a vaccination administered in front of the cameras.
In the USA, more than 514,000 people have died as a result of a corona infection, by far the highest number in the world.
Around 50 million people in the country have now received at least one dose of vaccine.
That corresponds to 15 percent of the population.
