Forty-seven pro-democracy activists were charged with "conspiracy to subvert state power" for participating in the primary election. The US State Department yesterday (1st) urged the Hong Kong government to release the detainees and withdraw the charges.
The Department of Justice issued a statement in the evening (2nd) in response, emphasizing that no one should interfere with the independent prosecution decision strictly in accordance with the law, reiterating that the prosecution decision is made after an objective analysis based on all admissible evidence, applicable laws and the "Prosecution Code". No political considerations are involved.

The statement stated that since the judicial proceedings of the case are still in progress, it is not appropriate to comment on the case further.
