The Erding fire brigade has a very special job offer: the federal voluntary service.

We spoke to one of the Bufdis and his superiors.

Erding - Maximilian Strube belongs to the first Corona Abitur class.

When he held his higher education entrance qualification in his hands in the summer of 2020, it was foreseeable that the universities were still a long way from normal operations due to the pandemic.

In addition, the 18-year-old wanted to take some time off anyway to orientate himself.

Now he has found a job that will take him further and that will also help Erdinger optimally for his desired degree in civil engineering: Strube is a federal volunteer (Bufdi ”) with the Erding volunteer fire brigade.

It is the only fire brigade in the district that offers federal voluntary service.

Strube is already the third Bufdi here, and a young woman has also completed the exciting and varied social year with the Erdinger fire brigade.

For them the Bufdis are a valuable support.

After primary school on Lodererplatz, Strube attended the Korbinian-Aigner-Gymnasium until last year.

He has been with the fire brigade since 2014. He started in the youth group and has been a member of the active team since 2019.

“After graduating from high school, I wanted to do something useful, not just sit around for a year before starting my studies,” he says.

He is very interested in technology and a fire brigade has a lot to offer here, reports Strube.

As Bufdi, he can take a close look behind the scenes of the fire department.

Last but not least, it appeals to him to be ready around the clock to save human lives.

The Bufdi service could also be the launch pad for Strube's professional career.

“Maybe one day I'll go full-time to a fire brigade,” he says, looking to the future.

He started his job on September 1st last year, for which he also receives a little remuneration of 414 euros per month.

He has fixed tasks in the guard on Lebzelterstrasse.

With the two full-time equipment maintenance staff, Benjamin Löffelmann and Michael Neumaier, Strube ensures that the depot is always tip top.

He also takes care of the maintenance of the twelve vehicles.

Because the fire trucks must be cleaned after each use and prepared for the next alarm.

In addition, he creates documents for instructing the active on how to handle the individual vehicles.

As Bufdi, he is in the tool shed five days a week.

If the beeper rings, he moves out like his comrades around the clock.

For city fire inspector and commander Markus Gebauer, the Bufdis are a valuable support.

“We have more and more tasks, vehicles and support.

Our work is becoming more and more complex.

We look forward to any profound support, ”explains the head of the troop.

Strube adds that he also carries out numerous test tasks on vehicles and equipment.

In addition, the Erdinger fire brigade also looks after the vehicles and equipment of the Langengeislingen comrades.

The Erding fire brigade has had federal volunteers since 2016.

Gebauer's predecessor Manfred Kordick negotiated the position with the city.

Because of the Youth Labor Protection Act, every Bufdi must have a full-time supervisor by their side.

These are the two machine operators who are also happy about the dedicated support.

Neumaier is a motor vehicle mechatronics technician ,öffelmann is a carpenter.

They are happy to pass on their knowledge to the Bufdis.

“The Federal Voluntary Service is a good opportunity for us to arouse interest in the fire service profession,” says Gebauer.

The Bufdis would get to know the entire breadth of fire fighters.

"We have had very good experiences with all three, they are a great help," the commander sums up the voluntary social year.

The federal voluntary service at the Erdinger fire brigade is in great demand.

"We advertised the position once at the very beginning and were overwhelmed by inquiries," reports Gebauer.

There are also quite a few from their own team who would like to be Bufdi in Erding.

That is why this possibility should also be available in the coming years.

The selection is made in the town hall.
