A tiger in the Berlin zoo is plagued by heartbreak - his partner Aurora had to be put to sleep.
Since then he has been screaming with grief.
Berlin - He's been complaining and calling her for months, but Aurora won't be back.
In the Berlin zoo, tiger Darius lost his tiger lady to a fatal disease and has been crying for her ever since.
The 14-year-old tiger screams so loudly that it sounds to visitors as if he is in pain, reports the
Berliner Zeitung (BZ)
At least Darius does not have any physical pain, but emotionally it should be very painful for him, as he lived for ten years with his now deceased lady of the heart, Aurora.
The Amur Tiger couple had five babies.
In 2014 they had triplets in their first litter, but two of them died.
The surviving female Alisha was brought to England.
In 2015 the tiger couple finally got quadruplets.
In 2020 Aurora and Darius became part of the new predator facility in the Berlin zoo.
Mourning tiger: couple lived together for ten years
The eleven-year-old tiger, Aurora, had to be put to sleep in November because her condition deteriorated noticeably.
"She suffered from an apparently chronic metabolic disorder and we could not give a positive prognosis," said zoo spokeswoman Philine Hachmeister in an interview with the
BZ
.

Zoo director Dr.
Andreas Knieriem explained: "We could not give a positive forecast, so in the end we had to take this step with a heavy heart."
Since his partner died, the tiger has been calling and moaning incessantly.
"He often does this at intervals of about half an hour and then up to two minutes at a time," says zoo spokeswoman Hachmeister.
According to
wwf.de,
the
Amur tiger or Siberian tiger is
the largest tiger
subspecies
and the largest living cat on earth.
In addition, he is typically a loner for Tiger, which makes Darius' story all the more surprising and heartbreaking.
