US President Joe Biden reaffirmed the importance of the relationship between his country and Mexico during a virtual virtual meeting with his Mexican counterpart, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on Tuesday at the White House.
“The United States and Mexico are stronger when we stick together.
There is a long and complicated history between our nations, who have not always been perfect neighbors to each other, but we have seen time and again power and purpose when we cooperate and are more secure when we work together, whether in addressing the challenges of our own. shared border or to control this pandemic, ”said Biden speaking from the Roosevelt Room.

Biden noted that his second call to a foreign leader was to López Obrador, and that this is his second virtual encounter with a world leader, something he said is not an accident.

"The importance of our relationship with Mexico is vital to the North American partnership that we have and paramount to all elements of my administration's priorities," said Biden.
He also recalled that he made four trips to Mexico as vice president, including one where he met the now Mexican president.

“In the Obama-Biden administration, we are committed to seeing Mexico as an equal, not as someone south of our border.

Biden also made brief personal comments, mentioning a trip to Mexico City where he visited the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe and carried a rosary that his son Beau Biden carried when he passed away.

López Obrador began by thanking Biden for his comments on the Virgin of Guadalupe and then spoke about the relationship between the two countries.
“I would also like to thank you for starting the conversation in this way, for stating that Mexico is so important to you.

It is important that we base our good relations on a constant dialogue, a regular dialogue.
I know that our relations in the future will be even better, ”said López Obrador.
He said the two countries are united not only by a shared border, but by "our economies, our trade, our culture, our history and our friendship."
As the press left the room, a journalist asked if the United States would send vaccines to Mexico, and President Biden said the two leaders were "going to talk about it."
Earlier Monday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden is not considering sharing part of the US coronavirus vaccine supply with Mexico.
