“Not an example for us” - Karl Lauterbach rigorously rejects the easing in Austria.

His opinion on the opening plan in the neighboring country has washed itself.

Munich - Austria was always one step ahead of Germany at the beginning of the corona pandemic.

The neighboring country surprised in the first wave at the beginning of March with border controls, then Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz declared lockdown.

The Alpine republic celebrated itself as a model student in the fight against Corona.

Now that is all in the past.

Austria continues to struggle with the number of infections and corona mutations, but wants to get out of the current lockdown.

SPD health politician Karl Lauterbach sharply criticizes these current easing plans in Austria.

 "Not an example for us."

“Austria is loosening up in the B117 wave,” tweeted the SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach.

Then the epidemiologist does not save with drastic words: “Many there will pay for that with their lives, if one can honestly describe it.

At the end there will be another lockdown for which the deceased cannot buy anything ... ".

Lauterbach's conclusion on Austria's Corona strategy: "Not an example for us."

With “us” we mean Germany, of course.

Lauterbach warns of the 3rd wave.

He even fears the 3rd corona wave will no longer be stopped if the lockdown is lifted.

It is above all the corona mutations that are causing the infection rate to rise again in Germany in mid-March.

German intensive care physicians are also calling for an extended lockdown until at least the beginning of April.

"Otherwise the 3rd wave will be very difficult or impossible to control", said DIVI boss Prof. Dr.

med.

Gernot Marx at a video switch.

The doctor substantiated his statement with various scenarios of a new prognosis model.

Corona in Austria - This is the current situation

Back to Austria: The 7-day incidence in Austria is currently 161.2 according to the Covid-19 dashboard of the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) (as of Monday, 2 p.m.).

For comparison in Germany, the 7-day incidence is currently 65.4.

That comes from the data of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

The 7-day incidence is currently highest in Lower Austria (194.1) and Burgenland (192.2).

The value is lowest in Vorarlberg (73.3) and Tyrol (105.1).

Austria - 7 day incidence

  • Lower Austria - 194.1

  • Burgenland - 192.2

  • Vienna - 185.7

  • Salzburg - 181.8

  • Carinthia - 174.4

  • Styria - 156.5

  • Upper Austria - 130.0

  • Vorarlberg - 73.3

  • Tyrol - 105.1

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Interior have reported 1,409 newly registered coronavirus cases within the last 24 hours (as of Monday, 9:30 a.m.).

According to AGES, 8,437 people have died of or with Covid-19 across the country so far.

The reactions to Lauterbach's tweet are divided.

Some point out to Karl Lauterbach that the corona deaths in Austria “fall constantly”.

On the subject of easing in Austria and Germany, they highlight the test numbers in both countries.

“One reason, of course, is that we test a lot more.

This means that the German and Austrian incidence figures are not comparable.

Another reason is that D has flattened the curve and a large part of the deaths was just pushed back, ”commented a Twitter user.

Others, however, agree with the SPD politician.

They fear that face-to-face teaching in schools could have negative consequences for the infection rate, including death.

In Germany, the number of corona cases is leveling off at a high level.

Meanwhile, the first details from the Corona summit with Merkel have leaked.

Here, too, there are signs of easing.
