Liguria has decided to increase the covid containment measures, including the closures of bars and restaurants, already taken in the Ventimiglia district, also in Sanremo.
They will come into force in Sanremo from midnight tomorrow, in the middle of the Festival, and will be in force until 14 March.
"We are very sorry - said President Toti announcing the closures - but we are forced to take them in spite of ourselves because the contagion curve has risen there too. We must isolate the outbreaks before the fire breaks out. The measures come into force from tomorrow night. to allow everyone to organize themselves, to reduce stocks ".
Bars and restaurants will be able to take away.
"We are aware that this measure comes into force in a particularly delicate area because the Sanremo Festival begins tonight, but this has not prevented us from taking appropriate measures to defend the health of citizens" said Giovanni Toti, explaining the reasons for the closure and showing a graph that photographs the increase in infections in the districts of Ventimiglia and Sanremo.
"As for the Ariston Theater where the festival takes place - added Toti - we know that it has become a real television studio with all the necessary security checks, it is a 'safe area' bubble so we are not afraid of problems".
With the entry into force of the measures decided by the Region, bars and restaurants in the Sanremo district will not be able to remain open until 18:00, as allowed by the ordinance signed in recent days.
After the measures had entered into force only for the Ventimiglia district, and not for that of Sanremo, there had been controversy in the border areas with France.
Among others, the mayor of Bordighera had protested because, he had stated, his city and Sanremo have the same rates of contagion but different treatments.
From tomorrow night the restrictions will coincide.
