Ibrahim Hamed, the driver who ran over Itamar Ben Abu to death while trying to escape during riots in Jerusalem, was released this evening (Tuesday) from detention to his home under restrictive conditions.
This is despite the fact that his detention extension was until tomorrow.
"My heart aches for him," Hamed said when he was released on the death of Ben Abu.
Hamed's lawyers, Jad Qadmani, protested his arrest.
"There was no need to stop him at all," he said.
"He was a victim of lynching in general. Every effort was made to do justice to Ibrahim."
Gadmani, said alongside lawyer Khaledon Najm who also represents Ibrahim that there are other suspects in the incident, but they have not yet been arrested.
"We do not want to harm the investigation," they said immediately after the release.
"There is now no opportunity to say that Ibrahim, after he was released, interfered with the course of the investigation."
