A party gathers as a drive-in theater.

What is this format of the Erdinger CSU all about?

We were there.

Erding - There are still around seven months until the federal election on September 26th.

But of course the candidates have to be set up well in advance.

For this purpose, delegates must first be elected in the local associations, who then determine the candidate in the district delegate assembly - in face-to-face events.

Since this is difficult at the moment, the Erdinger CSU has chosen an extraordinary path.

74 members came to the Feneberg car park in Westpark in around 50 cars on Sunday.

In front, on the back of a small truck, stood the local chairman, Mayor Max Gotz.

All permits had been obtained, all hygiene rules were observed, he assured him and could not resist a swipe in the direction of the state capital.

“The Munich CSU can once again look to Erding to find out how to organize an event in a corona-compliant manner,” he said, referring to the planned meeting on the Nockherberg, which was canceled at short notice because there was trouble.

There is currently a lot of misunderstanding among the population, said Gotz with regard to the tentative easing and warned: "This can lead to a democratic crisis." The CSU must show that it has the heart with the people and is down to earth.

And he promised: "We will transport the worries to Munich and Berlin."

Member of the Bundestag Andreas Lenz was enthusiastic about the event and the "drive-in cinema flair".

The efforts of the past few months to get the pandemic under control have not been in vain, he noted, but urged more conclusive concepts, "because if the acceptance is no longer there, people no longer participate".

The EU Commission had not only acted correctly, he noted, but pointed out that “the vaccine is not yet available in 130 countries”.

In his opinion, the third wave will be "difficult to prevent".

"I am very concerned about the social atmosphere", Lenz confessed and promised: "For me, the constituency is in the foreground." He criticized his party colleague Georg Nüßlein, who is confronted with allegations of corruption.

"Trust has been abused here, and I certainly do not hold a protective hand over it," grumbled Lenz and called for "clarification with all the consequences".

After the CSU members had filled out their ballot papers for the delegate election in their cars, which were then collected, the CSU district chairman, District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer, had a say.

You need an opening strategy - "cautiously, carefully, with appropriate measures", he demanded.

Openings are urgently needed, "also as a signal, as a reward effect," said Bayerstorfer and emphasized: "We have demanded a lot from the people." Finally, the district chairman also invoked cohesion within the party.

"We in the CSU are guarantors that we stand together," he said.

"And we want to achieve the best for the citizens together."

Finally, Bayerstorfer pointed out that the CSU district delegate meeting would take place on Sunday, March 28th, at the same location.
