Many missions, but hardly any opportunity to practice: The standstill caused by the corona pandemic is on the nerves of the Forstinningen fire brigade.

Forstinning

- Herbert Wagner would usually have spoken at one of the regular meetings of the Forstinningen firefighters at the beginning of the year in the plenum and, among other things, presented the annual statistical report for 2020.

But nothing is normal at the moment.

Of course, the commander has long since had the relevant figures for the previous year.

For a special year, because the corona pandemic already dominated the everyday life of the comrades enormously in the past reporting year 2020.

This can best be seen in the number of exercises performed.

At 24 there was less than half compared to last year.

As a result, the number of hours practiced by the currently 61 active comrades halved from 1297 to 648.

More missions in the first year of the pandemic

However, the working hours for direct assignments have increased.

The 669 hours in 2019 turned into 789 hours in 2020.

The reason: there were also more missions in 2020.

There were 63 for the Forstinninger last year, 55 in 2019.

These 63 missions in the past year are divided into 47 technical assistance and ABC missions (gas leakage, leakage of hazardous substances, fire with mineral oil products), false alarms and fire protection missions.

According to Wagner in a DC conversation, the technical assistance was usually about traffic accidents.

And almost all of them had something to do with the A 94.

The fire brigade is positively positioned in terms of personnel.

In addition to the 61 active participants, there are currently 20 young people.

A proud number for a community the size of Forstinnings.

This is where the good work done by young people over the years is noticeable, says Wagner.

Special mention should be made in this connection of the youth wardens Markus Hitzlsperger, Adrian Wimmer and Andreas Riedl.

Despite Corona, there was even an increase in the youth fire department, the commander said, not without pride.

Hope for career changers

The number of active firefighters is also stable among adults.

However, according to Wagner's downer, there is a major shortcoming: During the day, too few respiratory protection wearers are on site.

This could lead to considerable problems in critical operations.

It would therefore be good if lateral entrants could be found who worked in Forstinning during the day.

In the past year, this deficit could not be compensated for with appropriate courses.

The courses had to be canceled due to Corona.

The same applied to machinist courses.

New vehicle is a long time coming

Not without consequences, Corona recently also played a role in the technical equipment of the Forstinninger.

Actually, according to Wagner, the new HLF 20, an emergency fire truck, should have been handed over in the next few weeks.

Because of the pandemic, the fire fighters were told, the final completion of the special vehicle has been significantly delayed.

In Forstinning, they are now expecting a handover and commissioning in autumn.

Until then, you will have to be content with a 30-year-old LF 16, which is in a technically not completely uncomplicated condition, as it is called.

“The year 2020 demanded a lot from us,” says Forstinnings Commander Herbert Wagner.

The local fire brigade life is significantly shaped by a lively practice operation, which was not allowed to exist.

This prescribed standstill has pulled on the nerves of many.

One now hopes that the exercises can at least be started again in the foreseeable future.
