Migdal Or, founded by Israel Prize winner Rabbi Yitzhak David Grossman, reports that this year, due to the great economic crisis that accompanies the virus, there is a huge jump in demand for holiday food baskets.

In the run-up to Passover, the organization is launching the "Seventh Holiday for Children" campaign for the 18th time in a row, and is reporting a flood of requests for food baskets - a 200% increase in requests, compared to the same period last year.

The data is even more disturbing given the fact that on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, Israel Today reported a 300% jump in inquiries, which indicates the depth of the ongoing crisis.

"The corona has hit the citizens of Israel very hard," Rabbi Grossman said, referring to the disturbing data.

"There are a lot of people who worked and earned a decent living until recently, and now they have no ability to survive. The heavy price is being paid by the children, an entire generation that lost their childhood in this crisis.

"Neglecting the younger generation and not reaching out today will lead to catastrophe in the future. If people do not harness each other for the sake of each other we will not recognize the country the day after."

In addition to the economic damage to aid applicants this year, the damage to the number of donations coming to the organization, which launched the food basket distribution operation yesterday (Tuesday), also continues.

"Due to the frequent closures and the damage to trade and the economy, this year there is a 50% decrease in donations from companies in the business sector, which were our main resource for purchasing food products and operating the entire distribution system, so we face a difficult reality," said Shai Amir, Rabbi Grossman. .
