The United States announced on Tuesday sanctions against Alexander Bortnikov, head of the powerful Russian security services (FSB), in response to the poisoning and imprisonment of Russian opponent Alexeï Navalny.

Mr. Bortnikov is part of a group of seven senior Russian officials targeted by US sanctions which provide in particular for the freezing of their assets in the United States.
