Even more vaccine should be available next week, a real wave of vaccinations is rolling towards Germany - despite the vaccination backlog.

Will everyone soon get a vaccination offer?

In Germany there is currently a vaccination backlog, many corrected persons reject a vaccination offer with the Astrazenca vaccine.

In the coming week, even more vaccine from the British manufacturer Astrazeneca should be available, as

But how should the problem of vaccination jams be solved?

The federal government rejects the allegations that there is too little vaccination.

Can anyone in Germany soon be offered a vaccination?

Wave of vaccinations is rolling towards Germany - despite vaccination backlog?

A large number of vaccines should be available in Germany as early as next week.

Far too little is currently being vaccinated - but not because too little corona vaccine is available.

Above all, the Astrazeneca vaccine is currently unused in the refrigerators.

The reason for this is the heated discussion about the Astrazeneca corona vaccine with regard to its effectiveness and also its side effects.

There is now great skepticism about the vaccine.

With the expected delivery of more than a million doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine, the vaccination backlog in the federal states could increase again by the end of the week.

By February 28, 2021, 8.8 million vaccine doses from BionTech / Pfizer, Astrazeneca and Moderna had been delivered to the federal states in Germany.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, a total of 6,394,364 corona vaccinations have been administered in Germany since the start of vaccinations at the end of December 2020 (as of March 2).

2,159,412 people have already received a second vaccination.

Vaccination backlog in Germany: Federal government rejects the accusation

Almost 1.1 million doses of the corona vaccine are to be delivered by Astrazeneca by Thursday, as reported by the German Press Agency (dpa).

Overall, the delivery volume increases to almost 3.2 million, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.

The federal government rejected the accusation on Monday that the vaccine was simply left unused.

There could be different reasons why Astrazeneca vaccine has not yet been administered, said government spokesman Steffen Seibert in Berlin.

Vaccine could be delivered relatively fresh at first, withheld for a second vaccination or not yet vaccinated, but intended for certain vaccinations.

Last weekend around 91,000 people in Germany were vaccinated with the drug from Astrazeneca.

If it stays at this rate, almost two million cans could initially remain unused by the end of the week.

The wave of vaccinations is rolling towards Germany: How can another vaccination backlog be prevented?

The federal government is currently rejecting the approval of the Astrazeneca vaccine for people outside the first two priority groups.

Baden-Württemberg has already adjusted the vaccination sequence * and prioritized certain groups of people in order to avoid a vaccination backlog and to speed up the vaccination process.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had recently brought up a less rigid prioritization for Astrazeneca in order to reduce the backlog as quickly as possible.

He also suggested on Monday that general practitioners, company doctors or school doctors should vaccinate Astrazeneca outside of the vaccination centers.

The head of the Standing Vaccination Commission of the Robert Koch Institute, Thomas Merten, has already expressed criticism in this regard *.

Opinions on the loosening of the priority groups currently differ widely.

"The vaccination backlog in Astrazeneca can be resolved immediately," said the board of the German Foundation for Patient Protection, Eugen Brysch, and thus criticized the federal government.

There are around six million family carers waiting for their vaccination offer.

"But nothing has happened here so far."

Around 200 million vaccine doses could be ready in Germany by the end of the year

Until when could everyone in Germany receive a vaccination offer?

The federal government announced that 11 to 13 million vaccine doses from Biontech are expected for the entire first quarter of 2021.

In addition, 1.8 million doses from Moderna and 5.6 million vaccine doses from Astrazeneca are expected.

In total, around 18 to 19 million vaccine doses could be available by the end of March.

In addition, on the basis of the supply contracts with the pharmaceutical companies, the federal government expects that Germany will receive 40.2 million doses of vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer, 16.9 million doses from Astrazeneca and 6.4 million doses from Moderna by the end of June.

That would be a total of another 63.9 million vaccine doses.

By the end of summer, 34.7 million doses from Biontech / Pfizer, 26.7 million vaccine doses from Moderna and 33.8 million doses from Astrazeneca are to be delivered within a further three months to September.

So another 95.2 million vaccine doses.

This means that in Germany there would already be the possibility of offering every German a vaccination offer at the end of September.

Provided that the delivery contracts can be kept.

But in principle, the prospect of enough vaccine looks good.

In addition, the first vaccine doses of Curevac *, which have not yet been taken into account in these calculations, could soon be available.

By the way: The skepticism about the Astrazeneca vaccine is not completely unfounded, but a vaccination offer should not be turned down prematurely.

Because the Astrazeneca vaccine is very effective despite its bad reputation.

A Scottish study * shows that the Astrazeneca vaccine protects against a severe course of corona infection even better than the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer.

In addition, initial study results show that increasing the interval between the first and second vaccine dose can improve the effectiveness of the Astrazeneca vaccine.
