Corona rules: Prime ministers disagree about easing

2021-03-02T12:16:50.134Z

The shutdown is apparently to be extended with some easing, according to a draft paper. The Prime Ministers, however, recently expressed very different opinions about possible plans.

A first draft resolution for tomorrow's summit between the federal and state governments indicates the first easing of the corona measures.

Accordingly, the shutdown should be extended until March 28th.

In some areas, however, there are plans to weaken the previous rules nationwide.

However, it is still unclear whether the proposal by Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the state leaders will actually be adopted.

The positions seemed to be far apart at the end.

Some of the prime ministers are promoting timely easing - others urge continued caution.

Not all country leaders expect that tomorrow's top meeting will actually result in a uniform plan.

Haseloff and Tschentscher for careful easing

Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister

Reiner Haseloff

(

CDU

)

advocates further easing the corona shutdown before the incidence falls below a seven-day incidence of 50, i.e. if there are more than 50 new corona infections within one week per 100,000 inhabitants.

Many people were exhausted after the lockdown, he said in an interview with the Funke media group.

"We should therefore allow more - with strict hygiene measures, tests and vaccination offers." As an example, he cited training in small groups in a sports club.

Haseloff said there must also be prospects for shopping in a clothing store or visiting a museum.

Haseloff also advocated taking other factors into account for easing in addition to incidence values.

The number of free intensive care beds, the progress in vaccination and the test strategy would have to be included.

Hamburg's Mayor

Peter Tschentscher

(SPD) also spoke out in favor of easing the shutdown with a simultaneous test strategy.

This must also be possible for incidence values over 35.

"Due to the currently increasing rate of infection, we will certainly not reach this value in the near future," said Tschentscher.

At the same time, however, his state government has resolved to »develop an opening strategy that gives planning prospects and is secure«.

Careful easing is suitable for this.

"We would rather prolong the crisis if we lift too many restrictions at the same time," said the SPD politician of the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung".

Crowds of people, for example, should be avoided further.

Kretschmann dampens hope for major easing

Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister

Winfried Kretschmann

(Greens)

positioned himself more cautiously

.

He dampened the hope of a more comprehensive easing of the shutdown - also in the schools.

You shouldn't risk rushing into a third wave with openings that are too fast, said Kretschmann on Monday evening at the SWR TV duel on the state election with CDU top candidate Susanne Eisenmann.

Although better masks are now available, according to Kretschmann, vaccination is progressing and more rapid tests are available.

However, the openings should not extend so far "that we lose control of the pandemic again," said Kretschmann.

He was skeptical that the secondary schools could gradually reopen next Monday.

"I tend not to see that."

The

Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans

(CDU) is also skeptical of any easing.

"We should remain restrictive," said Hans in the SPIEGEL interview.

You are "already in the third wave", now you have to "take the renewed increase in the number of infections very seriously and not jeopardize our successes of the last few months," said Hans.

Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther

(CDU), however, was optimistic on ZDF that the federal and state governments will decide on a “step-by-step and perspective plan” for opening steps on Wednesday.

"I am very sure that it will also come," says the CDU politician.

Uniform rules "not tenable"

His CDU colleague Haseloff is different: He does not expect the federal and state governments to agree on a uniform step-by-step plan for corona easing on Wednesday, according to the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt.

"You can't lump all countries and districts together." The infection rate is too different for that.

Uniform rules are also not legally tenable.

In a draft for the federal-state switch on Wednesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the heads of government of the states propose to extend the current shutdown until March 28th.

Among other things, the possibility for private meetings is to be expanded.

Meetings between one's own household and another household, for example, should be allowed for a maximum of five people.

Bookshops, flower shops and garden centers are also to be opened uniformly in all federal states.

This would be the second easing step in a short time after elementary schools and hairdressers.

The federal states should be able to make further easing depending on the incidence values.

Most recently, 3943 new corona infections were reported in Germany within one day.

As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Tuesday morning, citing the health authorities, the so-called seven-day incidence fell slightly to 65.4.

On Monday this value was 65.8.
