In this unusual year 2020, the French have shown an appetite for video games.
Sales of full games on consoles increased by 25% compared to 2019, for a total of 1.3 billion euros spent.
This amount breaks down almost equally between purchases in disk format and digital purchases.
It is to take into account these changes in consumer practices that the French union of video game publishers (SELL) is publishing for the first time this Wednesday a ranking of the best sales of the year taking into account transactions on platforms in online PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store.
Animal Crossing and Fifa over the million
Be careful, however: Nintendo eShop data is missing, due to lack of authorization from the Japanese giant.
Only its sales in cartridge format are made public.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
(Nintendo), the phenomenon of this year 2020, thus posts 1.07 million sales only in physical format.
Its total sales are much higher ... but will remain confidential.

It is therefore the
Fifa 21
(EA)
football game
that takes the lead with 1.3 million sales, of which 400,000 come exclusively from PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store.
The game
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
(Activision) achieved half of its sales in digital format, and ranks third with 660,000 sales.
The indestructible
GTA V
GTA V
(Take-Two) confirms its status as a classic: released in 2013, it still has 602,000 sales in 2020 and is ranked fourth best seller of the year.
The game is often in promotion and takes advantage above all of its
GTA Online
online mode
, which is regularly updated.
The other blockbusters of the year have not been unworthy.
The
Assassin's Creed
license
(Ubisoft) had its best start with the episode
Valhalla
, which sold 565,000 copies.
At Sony, the highly anticipated
The Last of Us Part 2
posted 434,000 sales (8th) while the new
Ghost of Tsushima
license
ranked 16th (236,000 sales).

The disappointment is on the other hand strong on the side of CD Projekt, many of whom thought that the
Cyberpunk 2077
game
would easily enter the top of the rankings.
In the end, the title does not even appear in the twenty best sales of the year, and displays 177,000 purchases in disk format.
Cyberpunk 2077 is
paying for the heavy technical problems of its console version, which has been withdrawn from sale on the PlayStation Store.

Finally, we should note the good performance of Nintendo games, of which, as we recall, only sales in cartridge format are made public.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
posts 553,000 physical purchases and ranks 6th.
Next come
Super Mario 3D All Stars
(324,000 sales),
Ring Fit Adventures
(261,000),
51 Worldwide Games
(257,000),
Luigi's Mansion 3
(244,000) or
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
