Covid-19: the French are in favor of new local confinements, but doubt their effectiveness

SURVEY - Aware that the government could take new measures as of Thursday to fight against the spread of the epidemic, the people questioned for our poll Odoxa Backbone Consulting, for Le Figaro and Franceinfo, display their skepticism about local confinements.


Exhausted by a year of epidemic, from strict confinements to local confinements, two thirds of French people remain according to our Odoxa Backbone Consulting survey for

Le Figaro

and Franceinfo in favor of the implementation of local confinements on weekends in the departments under surveillance reinforced.

But they hardly have any illusions any longer.

This measure arouses among them an increasingly mixed reception (53%) in the departments directly concerned.

While they are in favor of the measure in principle, the French consider it insufficient (63%) and are above all numerous to doubt its effectiveness (45%) or to consider it too restrictive (49%).

The inhabitants of the departments concerned are even more severe.

As a result, if we are far from the boycott of government decisions: 36% of French people and 62% of young people plan to not scrupulously respect this measure if it were to apply in their territory.

The proportion is identical for the inhabitants of the territories most immediately concerned.

On the other hand, everyone would approve local measures aimed at easing health restrictions in the departments least affected by the epidemic: 78% of the French and 82% of the inhabitants of the departments concerned would be in favor.
