Last year there was the folk festival in Gmund to take away - at least the delicacies.

This year, the landlord Fahrenschon wants to set up a beer garden - if Corona does not interfere.

Gmund

- The recipe comes from last late summer: Organizer Christian Fahren has had only positive experiences with his beer garden fair.

In Bad Aibling, Geretsried and Vaterstetten.

Now Fahrenschon wants to bring the outdoor alternative to tent operation to Gmund.

The only classic folk festival at Tegernsee could probably take place at the end of June this year.

For ten days, Fahrenschon wants to give the citizens nice and cozy hours after the long lockdown time with Oktoberfest delicacies and a few (children's) carousels.

He has already spoken to his waitresses so as not to end up without staff.

"They're looking for something else."

Folk festival in Gmund again this year on the once-established date

There is a reason why the Gmunder Volksfest is now returning to its later date in June, which was the same as in 2016.

On the one hand, the risk that strict corona rules still apply is somewhat lower, explains Fahrenschon.

On the other hand, he doubts that the lake and forest festivals at Tegernsee can take place in the usual way this year.

"Because of them, we last dodged into the spring so as not to take people away from each other."

Fahrenschon cannot yet say for sure how the Gmunder Volksfest will ultimately run.

If the corona situation has not relaxed by then or the weather is hitting the beer garden business, he can still offer his “Volksfest to go”, which was well established from the previous year.

“That always works,” says Fahrenschon with conviction.

Music and rides at a distance, beer garden instead of marquee

For a bit of flair on the square, a beer garden with music and a small amusement park would be the first choice.

The space available on site would definitely allow for generous seating and rides with sufficient space between them.

"We will plan all of this in close coordination with the community and the health department," assures the organizer.

Fahrenschon is not worried that local innkeepers might see their beer garden as competition.

“We shouldn't play ourselves off against each other.” For “traveling festival organizers” like him, this format is the only opportunity to earn anything at all.

The economic conditions in the industry are bad.

"Two of my colleagues had to give up."

However, Fahrenschon has come to terms with the Corona requirements.

Only the collection and storage of the contact data turned out to be a nonsensical effort.

At his three folk festivals in Aibling, Geretsried and Vaterstetten he collected a total of 40,000 names and addresses, reports the landlord.

How many have the health departments asked for follow-up?

"Not a single one," sighs Fahrenschon.

On the other hand, he has great hopes for rapid tests.

If they should also be used to restrict access in the catering industry, he would like to use them, emphasizes the landlord.

"In the end, everyone benefits from it."
