US President Joe Biden announced the withdrawal of the candidacy of Nira Tandin to run the Office of Management and Budget in the White House after the categorical refusal by prominent members of the Senate to confirm her in this position, in the first defeat for the Democratic President in the House.
"I have accepted Nira Tandin's request to withdraw her candidacy for the position of Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the White House," Biden was quoted by the French Press Agency as saying in a statement.
This decline came after a number of Republican senators in addition to one Democratic senator announced that they would vote against Tandin’s confirmation due to statements she made in the past that included violent criticism of a number of senators.
The director of the Office of Management and Budget in the White House has wide influence, especially that he is responsible for setting the budget that the president wants and evaluating his ministers' projects and expenses.
The United States Senate has the power to approve or reject presidential nominations for key positions in government, and presidential nominations are confirmed by at least 51 votes.
