After further investigation, the National Security Department of the police arrested Ding Jiayu (61 years old), the former chief operating officer of Next Media, yesterday (March 2), suspected of "fraud," and detained him for investigation.

At about 3:40 p.m. so far, Ding has been released on bail and left the Central Police Station accompanied by a lawyer. During the period, he did not respond to reporters' questions.

Ding Jiayu is a former executive director, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Next Media, and a member of the remuneration committee.

The police once accused the Next Media Group of fraudulent means to defraud the right to use the plant at a low price. It is reported that Ding was responsible for renting the plant during his tenure as a director.

Looking at the information, Ding Jiayu resigned from his post on January 1, 2016. The announcement of Next Media that year stated that after 18 years of Ding Jiayu's service group, he decided to retire all administrative positions in order to pursue personal interests, and confirmed that he had no disagreement with the board of directors.

Next Media later appointed Zhou Daquan as executive director, chief financial officer and authorized representative of the company.

The National Security Department of the police stated on August 10 last year that it had investigated a group that used propaganda and actively participated in requesting foreign or international organizations to impose sanctions on Hong Kong, and discovered that 2 men and 1 woman were operating related organizations in Hong Kong. It alleged that a group of high-ranking media groups used foreign countries. Hukou financially supports the group.

Li Guihua also alleged that the police received complaints that the media group had fraudulently defrauded the right to use the factory at a low price.

The police mobilized more than 200 people to search the Next Media Building with a court warrant, and approached 25 boxes of exhibits.

Since the case (March 2), a total of 11 people have been arrested. Among them, Li Zhiying, Next Media Group President and Chief Financial Officer Zhou Daquan, and Chief Executive Officer Huang Weiqiang were charged with one crime of fraud. Li Zhiying was subsequently charged with one additional charge of "collusion". The crime of endangering national security by foreign countries or foreign forces.
