More than seven people have been killed in the past day by police and army fire during demonstrations against the military coup in Myanmar.
Mass protests took place in all the major cities in the country, including Mandalay Wingon, and large sections of the economy drank in protest of the return of the country’s military dictatorship.
Police and soldiers were seen firing live ammunition at protesters, who defended themselves behind plastic sheets and threw stones and bottles at the attackers.
The protesters carried signs and chanted slogans for democracy and for the imprisoned leader, Ang San Sochi.
In photos posted on social media, protesters were seen wounded and killed by gunfire.
Su Li, a resident of Yangon, told Israel Today: "The whole world sees what our army is doing to us. They are firing indiscriminately. All we want is the government we have elected and the right to freedom and sovereignty in our country."
The country's military coup took place early last month during which the military removed a government elected by the National League for Democracy from the government, claiming that the election results were falsified.
Army commanders have since formed a government loyal to the junta and promised to crack down hard on any opposition.
