Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is interested in visiting the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain even before the March 23 Knesset elections.

Senior Israeli officials noted that contacts are currently underway in an attempt to set a date for the visit in the next two weeks.

This is the fourth time that Netanyahu has tried to coordinate a visit to the Gulf.

Netanyahu's visit to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain before the election is expected to be a major event in his campaign.

Sources in the Emirates have in recent weeks expressed concern that such a visit would be an intervention in the Israeli elections.

At this point, however, the emirates have not responded in the negative and are in contact with the Prime Minister's Office on the matter.

In the last three months, visits scheduled for Netanyahu to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have been postponed three times.

At the end of November, Netanyahu's trip to Abu Dhabi and Manama, scheduled for the first week of December, was canceled.

The reason for the cancellation then was a request from the Bahrain government.

Following the cancellation of Netanyahu's visit, Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi's visit was also canceled.

At the end of December, Netanyahu postponed his trip to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, which was scheduled to take place in the first week of January.

The reason for the postponement was the government’s decision to initiate a third closure due to the rise in morbidity in Corona.

In early February, Netanyahu was scheduled to visit Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Manama.

The trip was supposed to last three days.

But then Netanyahu decided to shorten the visit to only a few hours due to the morbidity situation in Israel, and to fly to one meeting in Abu Dhabi with the regent and de facto ruler of the UAE, Muhammad bin Zayed.

A few days after the decision to shorten the visit, the Prime Minister's Office announced its postponement for the third time.

The reason given then was the closure of the sky following the state of illness.
