"

I receive sad news from Burma on bloody clashes with loss of life,

" said the Pope asking "

the authorities concerned that dialogue prevails over repression

".

“The international community should work so that the aspirations of the people of Burma are not stifled by violence,”

François added.

The Pope has already spoken twice to express his solidarity with the Burmese people after the coup and to demand the release of the detained leaders.

At least seven pro-democracy protesters were killed and several wounded Wednesday in Burma by security forces who continue to fire live ammunition.

The military junta has stepped up its repression since the coup that overthrew the civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1.
