The meeting of the Prime Minister, Engineer Hussein Arnous, with the Board of Directors of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce focused on combating smuggling and speculation operations on the Syrian pound, supporting exports and production, stimulating investment, providing the necessary facilities for this, and expediting the issuance of a new tax law.

During the meeting, it was emphasized to activate participation with its maximum limits with the commercial sector, as it is a true national partner and to deal responsibly with the current circumstances in a way that contributes to enhancing the value of the Syrian pound and confronting the attempts to target it.

Eng. Arnous stressed the importance of joining efforts to reduce as much as possible the impact of the economic blockade on the living conditions of the citizens, explaining that the current conditions require that the components of society assume all the responsibilities entrusted to them, the spirit of initiative and support the government efforts aimed at stimulating markets.

Eng. Arnous emphasized that managing the local market is a joint responsibility of government agencies and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce with the aim of providing products to citizens in quantities, quality and appropriate prices, stressing the government's endeavor to strengthen the partnership with the business sector and provide requirements for expanding its activities, pointing out the measures taken to find out the difficulties that hinder commercial activity and work on Overcoming them and involving the Federation of Chambers of Commerce in discussing important economic decisions to ensure that they achieve their desired goal of supporting commercial activity.

In a related context, the Prime Minister’s meeting with the Board of Directors of the Federation of Chambers of Industry focused on revitalizing the production process, securing its requirements, and mobilizing the local industry to enhance production and support the Syrian pound.

The proposals dealt with developing tax legislation, supporting trade exchange with friendly countries, expediting the issuance of an investment law, providing facilities to rehabilitate factories affected by terrorism, providing energy carriers necessary for industrial production, and emphasizing the continuation of importing only production requirements, encouraging export industries and providing incentives to attract expatriate businessmen to invest in the country.

Eng. Arnous indicated that supporting industrial production is a priority in government work to secure the basic needs of citizens and target new export markets, indicating the importance of networking between the industrial and agricultural productive sectors to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce the import bill, stressing that everyone is interested in supporting the Syrian pound and the need for concerted efforts to confront speculative operations and increase the process. Productivity.

The Prime Minister called on the Federation of Chambers of Industry to present visions and proposals that would support the local industry as an important development partner so that it could be used in government decisions taken to help industrialists expand their productive activities.

In a statement to reporters, Engineer Faris Al-Shehabi, head of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Industry, said: We, as industrialists, confirm that the increase in the exchange rate is illogical and is not based on economic foundations, and it is the result of speculative operations and the pressure imposed on the Syrian people, adding: We must cooperate and unify efforts to support the Syrian pound and thwart speculation operations.

For his part, Samer Al-Dibs, head of the Damascus Chamber of Industry and its countryside, said that during the meeting, the consequences of the unreasonable exchange rate hike due to speculation and smuggling were discussed, and it is an unreal price. We must focus on reducing the import of unnecessary luxury materials, and focus on importing raw materials necessary for industry and encouraging exports to neighboring markets.

The head of the Aleppo Chamber of Commerce, Amer Hamwi said that the meeting touched on the problems and concerns of the citizens and the daily suffering of the citizens, and we and the government aim to work to secure the market's need for basic commodities and we seek solidarity and cooperation in this field, and everyone must be cooperative to support the Syrian pound, and it is a national duty that must be done. with it.

In turn, Ali Turkmani, a member of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, explained that the meeting discussed the reflection of the high exchange rates on the purchasing power of citizens and the joint measures that must be taken to enhance purchasing power and stimulate markets, pointing out that there are measures that will be directly reflected in improving the value of the Syrian pound and stabilizing the prices of materials.
